CHIEF ACCOUNTANT

Job Description

Main purpose of the job

Reporting to the Finance Director, the Chief Accountant is tasked with overseeing the extensive variety of duties undertaken by the Finance Department, including setting targets and supporting individual departments to create and maintain their budgets, maintain all financial systems identifying areas that require improvement and implementing necessary changes to support business development.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Strategy and Financial Planning

a) Drive the strategic planning process of the business
b) Coordinate the budgeting and forecasting processes and monitor performance through the year against plans

2. Financial Accounting and Internal Controls

a) Ensure timeliness and accuracy of accounting records.
b) Implement and manage an appropriate accounting system across the business.
c) Develop and implement appropriate financial processes and procedures across the business
d) Ensure the internal control system across the business is robust, suggesting and making improvements regularly

3. Management Accounting and Reporting

a) Prepare monthly management accounts and reports thereon
b) Reporting to stakeholders and board members
c) controlling income, cash flow and expenditure

4. Working capital Management

a) Manage payments to ensure that Vendors are not upset and cash- flows are not constrained
b) Manage cash-flows adequately and the controls therein
c) Negotiate with the various financial institutions while minimizing costs to the Company

5) People Management

a) Manage performance of the finance team and ensure regular appraisals and feedback sessions
b) Understand and address the training needs of the team
c) Ensure discipline within the team.

6) Audit and Tax issues

a) Ensure adequate preparation for audits
b) Follow up and resolve issues raised from audits
c) Ensure compliance in tax related and other statutory requirements

 

Qualifications and experience

a) Fully qualified member of ACCA and highly experienced
b) A relevant Bachelor’s degree from a reputable institution or MBA will be added advantage
c) Good leadership and supervisory skills.
d) Excellent problem analysis and problem-solving skills
e) Member of ZICA

c) Ability to analyse and make recommendations, alongside the capacity to drive through key business changes
d) Strong business acumen and understanding of financial issues

f) Proficiency in different accounting packages like QuickBooks, Sage Pastel, and Tally
g) Good leadership and supervisory skills
h) Excellent problem analysis and problem-solving skills
i) Decision-making
j) Good oral and written communication skills
k) Adheres to Principles and Values to safe guard integrity of Finance unit
l) Able to analyse complex issues
m) Able to Plan and Organize
n) Entrepreneurial and Commercial Thinking
